Mark your calendars! Drug-Free Work Week 2008
Drug-Free Work Week 2008 to be held October 20-26, is a public awareness campaign that highlights the importance of being drug free to workplace safety and encourages workers with alcohol and drug problems to seek help. The U.S. Department of Labor has put together fabulous "tool box" and other resources to help EAPs and their client organizations put together an effective event.

Returning Vets Face A Rise in Mental Health Issues, EAPs Can Help
A new report describes the rising problem of returning soldiers' battle with mental illness, and how EAPs can help ease the transition back into civilian life. Note: EA professionals must complete a very brief form to gain immediate online access to this free report.

Using e-mail on EAP Websites - Peril or Opportunity?
At one EAP, the website lists an e-mail address, but then uses an oversized, red font, to warn: “This e-mail address should be used ONLY for general inquiries. Existing clients should contact us at the phone number listed above.” Despite this caveat, the EAP reports that a number of clients have e-mailed very personal information, rather than calling. Parity Update
Parity for Addiction and Mental Health may be the most important piece of federal legislation affecting the EA field, and most importantly, our clients, in more than a decade. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) has put together a Public Policy Alert which explains where things stand today and advocates for involvement on the part of all addiction professionals.

EAPA's John J. "Jack" Hennessy Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications for Full Conference registration scholarships to this year's Annual World EAP Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. EAPA anticipates awarding a total of four scholarships (2 for labor affiliated members, and 2 for non-labor affiliated members), and applications from members will be accepted through Friday, August 29, 2008.
